Topps Triple
Can someone explain the different 2010 topps football sets?
I've been out out collecting sports cards for 17 years and thought I would start to dabble in it again. However, I am very confused by the excessive series that topps has put out. Chrome, finest, triple threads, regular series, platinum, unrivaled, etc. What are the differences and what would you say is the best to collect. I'm looking more for fun that value, however I would like to collect something that holds up as a true collectable.
OK, so you got out in '93. I was heavily into it then, too. Still am, but in a different and much more serious way. Around '95, I got fed up with the endless churning out of sets across three or more brands just from one company, and I headed back in time, going after old stuff that I didn't have, but could easily know most everything about. Values of pre-1980 have held steady or continued to appreciate.
I recommend that you do the same. 2010 has seen things change. Production is nowhere as amok as it was in the '90s, there are fewer companies, but the cranking out of 'gimmick' cards in what is basically a lottery has increased tenfold. I won't touch the stuff. I haven't bought a current or recent-year product since 1997 except for something I knew I could get cheap and flip immediately to help pay for my vintage collection. Example: Bought the complete 2001 eTopps baseball set for $450 and sold it for $750. I just don't collect new.
