Is the attempted car bombing of Times Square a sign of things to come?
When people like me think of car bombs I think of Iraq or some other volatile Middle Eastern country... not Times Square.
Are terrorists going to start coming to America and doing small scale yet frightening attacks on us such as a car bombing? And this may seem stupid but do you think terrorists would ever set up IED's here in America??
Possibly as US troops eventually withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan then the targets of opportunity decrease and Al Qaida will have to go after more difficult targets.
So either well guarded bases occupied by US personnel or soft civilian targets (which they seem to prefer). And since the military learns and improves their security after every attack, the likelihood that civilians will be targeted goes up.
Hopefully we will see real security improvements instead of the just the crap seen since 9/11 to just placate the frightened masses.
but in a way the Times Square bombing is a good sign. Most Al Qaida terror attacks against overseas targets are well planned and most that fail are do to outside forces stopping them. The last few have failed because of something they messed up . So that may be a sign of how much effect Western forces have had on their operations especially when it comes to overseas attacks
