Can someone use a P.O. Box when applying for auto insurance?
Can someone use a P.O. Box when applying for auto insurance?
I live in New Orleans, and the insurance for new and used vehicles is REALLY expensive. I have a clean record, and am applying for insurance on a non sporty vehicle (Honda Accord or Civic sedan).
I was wondering if I can get a P.O. Box in another Parish (County) where the insurance is significantly cheaper. This way I can apply with that address rather than my residential.

You can always have a PO Box as a mailing address, for some people it is easier, however, the insurance company will always ask you the address where you live and rate the policy based on that address. The insurance will never be rated to a PO Box address.
Oh, and if you give an invalid home address and you have a loss, the insurance company will investigate (there are programs that insurance companies have access to that pull all known addresses by your name & license number & pull all other people at the same address), find out that you lied to them & will deny your claim. Especially Progressive. They definitely will do that. I know of them doing it twice in the last 2 years on people that we didn't have (one was a prior client & one we just quoted with Progressive that both lied about garage location of vehicles), they denied the claims and voided the policy for material misrepresentation.
If you can't afford the insurance on the car you own, sell it, get an older car that you pay cash for & get take off comprehensive & collision coverage - that is usually the most expensive part of the policy.
