I usually paint in acrylic on canvas. Can you advise on the approach to painting clayboard?
I often use acrylic as water media, too. Should I approach clayboard differently? Also, what should I do to show? (Framing, suspended, etc.)
Acrylic paint in a style watercolor on Clayboard would not need any special preparation, but it is expected a few surprises - the clay does not absorb paint well, but a thin layer would hang on long enough to be considered "stable". You want to get interesting effects, similar to painting on Yupo paper. I highly recommend a final varnish, but please choose a good non-yellowing varnish, because I saw some spray varna go yellow clayboard (nobody knows why ...) After the opening, you can hang without glass, but realistically the sensitive area should not be exposed like this ... too easy to scrape. Behind the glass is the safest place for her, is behind a carpet or a spacer between the glass and the image. If you decide to paint with acrylics in traditional style, I would not recommend clayboard not - may as well use masonite for half price. acrylic inks you clayboard seems incredible, they seem to stick better. But I have seen that was used as an accent color, not covering the entire board. I'm not personally convinced of the durability of acrylic on a relatively non-porous surface.
